As I write this blog post, I am filled with a sense of urgency and passion to share this message with you.
The importance of NOW weighs heavily on my heart as it’s been just over a year since my sister passed away…only a few days after the release of our book collaboration – Divine Direction.
I remember sitting in the radiology treatment room as I told my sister about my new collaboration project and how I was inviting people to share their stories in a book. On a whim, I asked her if she wanted to write a story for the book project.
If anyone had permission to wait and see and think about telling her story later, she had it. She was quite literally fighting for her life. We were in a room where she was receiving treatments for terminal cancer that had metastasized throughout her body. She had the perfect excuse to say, “Not now.”
But she didn’t.
She decided what she had to share was too important to wait.
And that’s what I want to talk to you about today.
Your story is too important to wait.
We need it now.
We need your voice, your perspective, and your experience. And I don’t just mean that in a general sense. I mean right now, in this moment.
Your story matters. Your voice matters. And the world needs to hear it now!
Why now, you ask?
Simple…
YOU Are Here NOW
I could tell you what you already know – that the world needs God more than ever – but in some ways, this feels like a tired message. Every generation says the same thing. But what cannot be said about any other generation or any other point in time is this: YOU are here NOW.
Your story, your experiences, and your unique genius are here now.
The people you are called to serve are here now.
You have the unique opportunity to make a difference in the world right now.
Here’s the thing…Other people are telling their stories now. Go to the bookstore and see all the books sharing ideas that harm people.
You have the power to bring light and healing into this world. And that story holds within it the power to give hope, create change, and spread love.
Do you hear the urgency, the call to action, in these words?
I hope so. Because this is more than just a platitude or a motivational message, it’s the truth.
Your Story Matters More Than You Know
It’s not always easy to share our stories. We might feel like our experiences are insignificant or that no one will care.
I’m here to tell you that your story has the power to impact someone’s life in a profound way, and that’s not something to be taken lightly.
I’ve seen firsthand the power of self-expression. I’ve watched as individuals who once felt voiceless and powerless were able to find strength and inspiration through sharing their stories. I’ve seen the way that even the smallest detail of someone’s experience can resonate with someone else in ways they never could have imagined.
And it’s not just about helping others. There’s something incredibly empowering about telling your story. It’s a way of taking ownership of your experiences, of giving yourself permission to be seen and heard, of connecting with something greater than yourself.
It’s a way of saying, “I matter, and my story matters.”
Perhaps you’ve been holding back from sharing your experiences because you don’t think your voice matters. Or, maybe you’re afraid of being vulnerable or judged. But the truth is, your story is valuable, and by sharing it, you have the power to inspire, educate, and connect with others.
Think about it – have you ever read or heard a story that deeply resonated with you and made you feel less alone? Or, have you ever been motivated to take action or make a change because of someone else’s story? That feeling of connection and inspiration is what makes storytelling so powerful, and it’s the reason why your story matters more than you know.
I know firsthand what it’s like to doubt the value of your story. For years, I kept my experiences to myself, thinking that they were too small or insignificant to share. But in time, I realized that my story could help others – and so could yours.
You may be thinking, “But what if no one cares? What if my story goes unnoticed?” It’s a valid concern, but remember that your story isn’t just about you – it’s about the people who need to hear it. And in a world that can often feel lonely and disconnected, I can guarantee that someone out there needs to hear your story.
My Invitation to You
If you’ve been waiting for a sign to share your story, look no further than the person staring back at you in the mirror.
You are the sign, and you are here on Earth right now because your voice and story matter. Don’t wait for someone else to give you permission. I challenge you to start sharing your story now.
Here are some actionable steps you can take to start sharing your story today:
- Journal about your story. Write about your experiences, your thoughts, and your feelings. You don’t have to write anything fancy or perfect. Just start writing and see where it takes you.
- Record yourself telling your story. If you don’t like writing, try recording yourself. It can be as simple as using the voice memo app on your phone. Once your story is recorded, you can transcribe it.
- Start small. You don’t have to share your entire life story all at once. Start by sharing a little bit at a time and build up to sharing more if that’s what feels right for you.
Remember, your story is unique and valuable, and it has the power to make a real difference in the world. Don’t be afraid to use your voice, to share your experiences, and to let the world know who you are. You are the sign you’ve been waiting for, and the world needs your story now more than ever.
I’ve got more to say about why the world needs your story now. One of the most important reasons is all about how much people need to see themselves in content, in books – in stories! Read my blog about The Power Of Representation here.
