What’s keeping you from achieving your goal of writing your book year after year?
The answer might shock you.
It’s not that you don’t want it. I can imagine that you feel a burning desire to share your message with the world—that’s why the goal to write a book keeps appearing on your “to do someday” list. But, year after year, something is keeping you from actually getting it done.
You see, when it comes to writing a book, most aspiring authors begin with the goal. They spend days and sometimes even weeks writing the perfect SMART goal – “I will write a 100 page book by December 31st.” They make sure their goal is specific and something that really motivates them. Yet, within a few months, that strategically set SMART goal is abandoned.
Here’s Why…
While it is very important to have a crystal clear vision of what you want to accomplish, developing your book writing goals is not the place to start.
Do You Believe You Will Finish Your Book?
The #1 barrier many aspiring authors face when it comes to achieving their book writing goals is not lack of focus or clarity…it’s not even lack of desire. The #1 reason most aspiring authors don’t follow through to finish their book is because they don’t truly believe it’s possible.
There is a strong correlation between your beliefs and the results you get in your life. That’s because your beliefs act as a self-fulfilling prophecy. As Henry Ford once put it, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”
When you believe that accomplishing your goals is possible, you have more physical energy and mental stamina. You are more inspired to come up with creative solutions to challenges. A strong positive belief helps you to defeat the doubts and fears that pop up along the way.
I know it might seem strange for me to tell you to believe you can accomplish your book writing goal before you even start to think about what that goal is. But trust me. No matter what your goals are or how closely they are aligned with your values and life’s purpose—if you don’t believe in your own power, you won’t get them.
Today I want to help you boost your belief by creating a Belief Narrative. To do this you will simply write down all of the beliefs you have about yourself that support you in achieving your goals.
Inspired Action – Write Your Belief Narrative
1 What makes you great? – Include your skills, talents, training, experience, personal characteristics and anything else you can think of that are reasons why you believe you will achieve your book writing goals. Be sure to add every single thing you have at your fingertips that helps you feel you can do it!
2. When you can’t think of any more beliefs or reasons, take a two minute break and then start writing again. Do this “stop and start again” two or three times. You’ll uncover some really juicy reasons and beliefs the deeper you dig. Just when you think you’re done you are going to come up with some additional powerful things to add. Don’t forget to include all those life lessons you’ve learned and the character you developed to get you through those tough times—they count, too!
3. Refer to your Belief Narrative whenever you are feeling unmotivated, doubtful, or uninspired. I guarantee it will lift your spirits.
4. Read your belief narrative aloud for greater impact!
I believe in you and hope you are believing more in yourself!!
